Doug Allen - WGAL News
8
Doug
Allen delivers the weather forecast each
weekday during "News 8 at 5,"
"News 8 at 5:30," "News 8
at 6" and "News 8 at 11."
Doug assumed his duties with WGAL's news
department in April 1989, after having co-hosted
the station's edition of "PM MAGAZINE"
for more than four and a half years.
Winner
of an Emmy Award for Best Weathercaster,
Doug works closely and consults with News
8's chief meteorologist, Joe Calhoun. Together
they operate this area's most complete and
state-of-the-art weather center.
Doug
grew up in Bethel, Connecticut. Upon graduation
from high school, he was awarded an American
Legion Scholarship. Doug attended Jones
College in Jacksonville, Florida, graduating
with a degree in broadcast management.
Beginning his career as a radio program
director in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Doug
later worked as an afternoon announcer on
CBS radio station WHTT in Boston. While
in Boston, he also hosted a music video
show on WNEV-TV.
Particularly
enthusiastic about his association with
the 21-hour on-air Children's Miracle Network
Television, Doug co-hosts the major event
each spring on WGAL. Proceeds from the telethon
stay in the Susquehanna Valley area and
benefit the Penn State University Hospital
at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.
